Hostal Lorca is a small hotel in Nerja, one of the nicest towns on the spanish southcoast in Andalucia (costa del sol). The hostal was built in 2000 and decorated rustical. It has an attractive interior, small pool and a private backyard for sunbathing. There is a bar where you can relax, watch TV, play a game, read, etc. Cold drinks are available. The hostal is located in the center of Nerja, in a very spanish street. The beach is a 600 meters walk away from the hostal. In the surrounding neighborhood there are many tapas bars where you can have a good dinner for a very reasonable price.

Information about Nerja
back

Nerja was an old little fishing village right on the Mediterranean Sea, but it is still known for its traditionally Andalusian atmosphere(almost no high blocks). Nerja receives a lot of sunshine (300 days a year!) and is surrounded by mountains, sea and culture. The Balcóny of Europe (part of an old fortress from 900 A.D.) is located in the heart of the old center of Nerja. This balcony gives a beautiful view of the coast line. The old center has small streets with picturesque white houses. The Hostel is located in (calle) Mendez Nuñez , one of these streets in the old center.

Nerja has several beaches, from small coves to bigger sandbeaches. The 'playa burriana' is the most famous and has a blue flag. You can walk along these beaches and coves by the 'paseo de carabineros' (beautifull walking path).

In the old towncenter you can by a lot of regional products, like 'vino de la tierra', olive oil, honey and a lot of tropical fruit. And there are a lot of bars where you can eat tapas.

If you don't want to go (only) to the beach, there is a lot to do in/ around Nerja too, as: walking, diving, jeeptours, a sailtrip, car/scooter/ mountainbike hire, spanish courses, flamenco shows and of course the things explained further on.

A few miles from Nerja you can find the international famous caves, cueves de nerja. This caves were discovered in 1956 by a few playing boys and have the biggest stalagtiet of Europe. It is the third attraction of Spain.

Behind the caves starts the naturepark of the 'Sierra Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara', where you can make beautifull walks and can meet the spanish mountain goat (cabra hispanica). Descriptions of walks are available in hostal Lorca. Also by car you can do a lot of beautifull routes (available in the hostal).

On walking distance, but you can also go by bus/car, is Frigiliana, a whitewashed village, which won the price of nicest town of Spain a couple of times.

Granada is a 1.5 hour drive away from Nerja. It is a historic city with the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the background. This town contains Alhambra and Generalife, the lastl Morish fortress in Europe and its beautiful gardens. We advise you to buy your tickets already at home, through www.alhambra-tickets.es , above all in april/may and september/october. In addition, you will find in Granada the Albaicin (gipsy village), Sacromonte, and many cathedrals. The city has many restaurants and bars.

During the winter you can ski in the Sierra Nevada Mountains (normally from 1/11 till 30/4). They have +/- 65 kilometres of piste, from simple to difficult.

The start of the Sierra Nevada are the Alpujarras. It is absolutely gorgeous to hike here or try the trouch and 'jamon serrano' in Trevelez, the highest village in Spain.

Malaga doesn't have the name of being a tourist must, but since 2003 they have a Picasso museum (closed on monday). But also the cathedral, the Alcazaba and the Gibralfaro are worth a visit.

Sevilla, Cordoba, Ronda, Gibraltar, Marbella/ Puerto Banus can be visited during one day. Information is available in hostal lorca.
